Hirota Tomei ts sunny
This car will be built using the replica regulations as approved for Historic racing in South Africa

First raced
Tomei, a Japanese company specialising in specialised engine parts and accessories was formed back in June of 1968. The TS Sunny was later sponsored by Tomei as from 1971 onward and became an iconic race car in the TS Cup racing series held in Japan.

crafting
Crafted from unique designs made to the bodywork, these cars were pure lightweight racing cars sporting GFRP wheel arches, hood, boot lid, rear spoiler and the front spoiler. Often most parts were available as works parts direct from the factory NISMO and selective other specialised parts were manufactured and provided by Tomei. This ensured that these little giants could be raced to their absolute maximum often exceeding 9000 RPM.

history
Unfastening the fiberglass hood reveals something special. Directly over its coarse under-plane lie the autographs of John Morton (BRE), Masami Kageyama (GT500 Calsonic/Impul driver), Kazuyoshi Hoshino (Impul founder and president), Michael Krumm (GT500 Motul/Nismo driver), Masahiro Hasemi (Hasemi Motorsport founder), Wada Takao (1986 JTCC Skyline driver), Iida Akira (GT300 WedsSport driver) and Motoyama Satoshi (GT500 Xanavi/Nismo driver). The other important signature under the hood is that of Kenji Takahashi, the original driver of the Tomei Sunny.

competition
The original car was raced from 23rd November 1970 and did its last race on 20th October 1984. The car is still competing in the Japanese Classic Car Association (JCCA) and is still a huge drawcard and still enjoys a huge following.

We will embark on the regular approach with our Datsun 1200 GX which we will use for the odd club historic race in the Pre-80 category. Our desire is to only compete occasionally at selective events and race tracks and those which we have never competed at before.
